SUBJECT: AN IMPORTANT COVID-19 CUSTOMER UPDATE
Valued School Specialty Customer,
Thank you for the important work you are doing to support the continued needs of your students as learning has shifted from school to home and for your continued support of School Specialty during these challenging times. I would like to provide you with an important COVID-19 update as the virus continues to impact our industry daily in new and different ways, including recent “Stay at Home” and “Safer at Home” orders issued in several states in which we operate.
These stay at home/safer at home orders have allowed businesses to continue operating if they support essential infrastructure, including distribution and fulfillment centers. Currently, all of School Specialty’s fulfillment centers remain open, operational and ready to support your needs.
In addition, our sales and customer service employees are working from home and are equipped with the technology and other tools necessary to consult with you on your changing needs, receive orders and manage shipments.
In response to the widespread school closures across the country, we have implemented a “Hold and Release” process for all outbound shipments to school sites in states or territories where mandated school closures have been declared. Shipments are held until we can confirm a site’s availability to receive goods on the scheduled or requested delivery date. This process helps to minimize service disruptions by reducing backlogs with our carrier network and reduces costs associated with returns, reships or reconsignments, thus improving the service to our customers.
Shipments to home addresses and other facilities excluded from the state closure mandates are not impacted by the hold and release process and will ship as normal.
We are also working closely with our suppliers and logistics partners to ensure we are prepared to support you as you begin to plan for your critical back-to-school orders. Our supply chain remains strong and while state closure mandates have impacted the availability or lead-times associated with certain products, we do not anticipate any material issues in meeting customer demand, outside of items such as hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes and toilet paper that are experiencing supply shortages nationwide. In addition, we continue to be able to fully support and provide our core and supplemental curriculum programs. Finally, as you consider your back-to-school orders, we encourage you to place orders as early as possible and take advantage of our ability to accommodate a requested “future ship date” that aligns with your needs.
We will continue to monitor all updates related to COVID-19 through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will follow all CDC recommendations and government regulations, while providing important updates as they are available. In the meantime, please contact your School Specialty sales or customer care representative if you have specific questions or concerns.
